I originally trained as a (BA) graphic designer from Falmouth in the UK, back in the ’90s. I combined freelancing in graphic design with teaching for many years, in upper secondary schools in various places in Norway.

After completing a Master in Arts, I’ve been engaged as a lecturer/supervisor at universities NTNU and INN. In 2019 I finally found my old easel and paintbrush. I had for endless years dreamed of expressing myself more than just digitally. Painting has since become essential for me, it took me 48 years to realize it.

I mix various techniques with acrylic as a base. I am also drawing lines on the canvas, following the water, pigments, and colors to discover an organic touch. My approach is often intuitive, although as a result of a long process ahead, with ideas, sketching, writing, and reflection. I often work in layers over a period of time, so that my works are a collection of time. Creating titles of the artwork is another challenge, that often comes to me after it’s finished, as a summary. Sometimes I paint on commission too on request, for weddings, anniversaries, etc. I do most of the photography, but when I need bigger prints and high resolutions, my friend and professional photographer Bjørn Tore #paulen_photo is always there to assist me.

I love all the Arts, singing in a choir, making sculptures in clay and wire, writing, illustration, acting, interior styling, etc. I make most of the frames for my original works myself too.
